Father and Son
“A little boy who had been to Sunday School told his father that he learned that God the Father and Son were equal.
The father said: “That is ridiculous. I am your father; you are my son. I existed a long time before you.”
“No,” said the boy, “you did not begin to be a father until I began to be a son.”

Rest: A Poem
I believe in all that has never yet been spoken.
I want to free what waits within me
so that what no one has dared to wish for
may for once spring clear
without my contriving. If this is arrogant, God, forgive me,
but this is what I need to say.
May what I do flow from me like a river,
no forcing and no holding back,
the way it is with children. Then in these swelling and ebbing currents,
these deepening tides moving out, returning,
I will sing you as no one ever has,
streaming through widening channels
into the open sea.

To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible; Jew, Gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that ,,,,, “
We want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The airplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair.
The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. Soldiers! Don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder.
Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men – machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!
“In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it is written that the kingdom of God is within man, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power. Let us all unite.”
Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfill that promise. Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us all unite!” ― Charles Chaplin
This is love and nothing else.
A Prayer in Spring
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.
Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.
And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.
For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.

This is how it is
As my prayer become more attentive and inward
I had less and less to say.
I finally became completely silent.
I started to listen
– which is even further removed from speaking.
I first thought that praying entailed speaking.
I then learnt that praying is hearing,
not merely being silent.
This is how it is.
To pray does not mean to listen to oneself speaking,
Prayer involves becoming silent,
And being silent,
And waiting until God is heard.

The Lucky One – Black Mother
Quote
Someone told me to read the lives of the saints to help me in times of dark night of the soul. Not just the saints but as well as people who had the courage to come back. These are ordinary people who managed to crawl out of their darkness with the help of others and divine intervention.
She was born in Sudan in 1869, kidnapped by Arab slave trades at age seven, sold and resold, suffered much trauma, abuse and brutality during her captivity that caused her to forget her own name. She was named Bakhita, meaning “the lucky one”. Life as a slave terrified her.
Forgiveness:“If I were to meet the slave merchants who kidnapped me, and even those who tortured me, I would kneel and kiss their hands. If what happened to me had never taken place, how could I have become a Christian and a religious?”
Eventually, in 1883 an Italian consul bought her, treated her kindly in his household, took her to Italy and was given as present to a wife of friend. When the new owner left for Africa to attend to business matters, she gave the Canossian Sisters of Venice custody of Bakhita. Here she found out that she is a free person and remained with the Sisters, became a nun and known as the “Black Mother.”
Bakhita, what a life story she had at a tender age. How does one get over the abuse she received as a child? With the help of others that cared about her and discovered that she has a new Master, her God, she recovered.
During the millennium year 2000, Pope Paul II canonized Josephine Bakhita.

On Being Thankful
Sometimes it can be difficult to be thankful when you feel miserable. That misery usually becomes worse when well meaning people remind you of what you should be thankful for. So, let me offer a prayer of gratitude for all who struggle with depression, or any other mental or emotional condition.
Dear Lord,
- Thank you for giving me the courage to get up and face another day, and the stamina to work for health.
- Thank you for holding me close when I have wanted to end my life, and for holding others who did die from depression, bipolar, or schizophrenia.
- Thank you also for understanding when I couldn’t get myself out of bed to go to mass or feared confession because the very thought of facing my sins only made me feel more unworthy of love.
- Thank you for providing the ability to hold up my head when people judged me, gossiped about me, or backed away during the times I became ill. Likewise, for granting me patience and understanding when those who saw me at my worst could not accept my health and so treated me as if I were still “fragile.”
- Thank you for teaching me how to carry my cross for love of you, focusing on you rather than my specific pains. I know I don’t do that perfectly but you don’t care and for that I am most grateful.
- Thank you for modern medicine, competent therapists and spiritual directors, understanding clergy, and Saints who had mental health difficulties. These can bolster my hope, lessen my sense of isolation, and even make me healthier.
- Thank you especially for those moments, days, and sometimes months of remission when joy and a clear mind return. These are a foretaste of what heaven will be like after I have finished fighting the good fight in faith and hope.
- Most of all thank you for accepting the offering of my imperfect, broken, and sick self at mass and responding by feeding and strengthening my soul with the Eucharist.
For all these things I thank you. Amen.

A weekend lost was a weekend found
I learned that vulnerability is okay,
to unmask myself,
I am not the only one who faces obstacles in life,
to make the most of time,
to “just be,”
and that I am more than ordinary.
God has numerous wonderful plans in store for me.
His love is the most selfless and everlasting love.
I cannot put into words how thankful I am
to be surrounded with people who love me
and go that extra mile to make me happy.
Sometimes the adults wonder what the children are thinking. Most importantly, sometimes we wonder whether we have raised the children well. We can only hope that they are safe and sound when we are not around to protect them.

Letter to your future self
Have you ever written a letter to yourself only to be opened in the future? I did.
In one of the retreats I attended, I wrote a letter to myself, sealed it in an envelope, addressed to me, left it at the retreat office and mailed it to me a year later. I completely forgot about the letter until I received it. Excitedly opened it, read it, put it back in the envelope, stored it away and cannot recall the content of the letter. Currently, I don’t know where I have hidden it. Maybe one day, I’ll find it before I die or maybe my family will.
What brought me to write this is due to Taylor.
Taylor was a vibrant 12-year old girl. She died young due to pneumonia-related complications. When her parents were going through her things, they discovered a sealed envelope addressed to her future self: “To be opened by Taylor Smith on April 13, 2023, only unless said otherwise,”
The letter reads:
How’s life? Life is pretty simple right now (10 years in your past). I know I’m late for you, but as I’m writing, this is early, so; congratulations on graduating high school! If you didn’t go back and keep trying. Get that degree! Are you (we) in college? If not, I understand. We do have pretty good reasoning, after all. Don’t forget, it’s Allana’s 11th birthday today! Sheesh, 11 already? In my time, she just turned 1! I didn’t get to go to that party though, because I was in Cranks, Kentucky for my first mission trip. I’ve only been back for 6 days!
Speaking of, how’s your relationship with GOD? Have you prayed, worshipped, read the bible, or gone to serve the lord recently? If not, get up and do so NOW! I don’t care what point in our life we’re in right now, do it! He was mocked, beaten, tortured, and crucified for you! A sinless man, who never did you or any other person any wrong!

“I am only a man, just like you.”
“It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures,” said St. André Bessette.
He is just another man, a real person that I would have very much wanted to meet personally. Unfortunately, he was born way ahead of me and died 20 years before I was born. If you ask him who he is, the response was “I am only a man, just like you.”
André Bessette is a native of Canada born frail in a poor family in Quebec. He became an orphan at the age of 12 and had hardly any education at all. In his early twenties, he entered the Holy Cross congregation in Montreal. Nobody wanted him. The main task given to him was menial as a porter, someone who opens the door and greets people who come to visit the Oratory. Yet he did his duty for 40 years accepting the little he had and turning it into a holy act.
One would not think that he lacks formal education when he is an effective teacher of faith by his action, love, kindness, and example. He used the simplest means. It is his complete trust with divine providence is what made him an exceptional person.
His dream was to build a church devoted to St. Joseph. He trusted that if he is really doing the Lord’s will the Lord would bring it to fruition. And it did happen.
How I would have wanted to see him open the door for me when I visited the Oratory in Mount Royal. I felt small as an ant standing at the first rung of the steps looking up at the Oratory.
In a world filled with educated minds and an era of countless celebrity, glitz, and glamour, I am amazed at what a simple man can do.
Brother André is what I call him and has left me a legacy to place my trust in Jesus.
The journey we have taken
Every day, God gives us the sun – and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy.
Every day, we try to pretend that we haven’t perceived the moment, that it doesn’t exist – that today is the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow.
But if people really pay attention in their everyday lives, they will discover that magic moment.
It may arrive in the instant when we are doing something mundane, like putting our front-door key in the lock; it may lie hidden in the quiet that follows the lunch hour or in the thousand and one things that all seems the same to us.
But that moment exists – a moment when all the power of the stars becomes a part of us and enables us to perform miracles.
Joy is sometimes a blessing, but it is often a conquest.
Our magic moment help us to change and sends us off in search of our dreams. Yes, we are going to suffer, we will have difficult times, and we will experience many disappointments – but all of this is transitory it leaves no permanent mark.
And one day we will look back with pride and faith at the journey we have taken.

The Seeker: I’ll never find another you.

They call The Promised Land
And I’ll be there some day
If you will hold my hand
I still need you there beside me
No matter what I do
For I know I’ll never find another you There is always someone
For each of us they say
And you’ll be my someone
For ever and a day
I could search the whole world over
Until my life is through
But I know I’ll never find another you It’s a long, long journey
So stay by my side
When I walk through the storm
You’ll be my guide
Be my guide If they gave me a fortune
My pleasure would be small
I could lose it all tomorrow
And never mind at all
But if I should lose your love, dear
I don’t know what I’d do
For I know I’ll never find another you But if I should lose your love, dear
I don’t know what I’d do
For I know I’ll never find another you
Another you
Another you “I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.” ~ 1 Corinthians 14:15 Related Links:
A Child is Born
Break the cord and fly like a bird.
When you feel as if you are in a deep darkness because of doubt, fear, illness, or depression, rather than try to desperately climb out perhaps it would be better to “walk in the dark.” Often when we try too hard we only get more discouraged and if we go with the flow while we try, we slowly feel better.
We can be attached to our pursuit of happiness and health to the point of forgetting we are human. We can expect ourselves, our doctors, therapists, spiritual directors, and priests to completely heal us, as if they were god. Pursuing health and happiness are good but need to be kept in balance. If we pine for them too much, we ignore the fact that only God can fully heal us and bring us lasting happiness.
When you feel overwhelmed by life’s difficulties St. John of the Cross advises:
“If a man wishes to be sure of the road he treads on, he must close his eyes and walk in the dark.”
“In tribulation immediately draw near to God with confidence, and you will receive strength, enlightenment, and instruction.”
“The soul that is attached to anything however much good there may be in it will not arrive at the liberty of divine union. For whether it be a strong wire rope or a slender and delicate thread that holds the bird, it matters not, if it really holds it fast; for until the cord be broken the bird cannot fly.”

You Must Start With Yes ~ Richard Rohr’s meditation
By teaching “Do not judge”, the great teachers are saying that you cannot start seeing or understanding anything if you start with “no.” You have to start with a “yes” of basic acceptance, which means not too quickly labeling, analyzing, or categorizing things as in or out, good or bad, up or down. You have to leave the field open, a fie…ld in which God and grace can move. Ego leads with “no” whereas soul leads with “yes.”
The ego seems to strengthen itself by constriction, by being against things; and it feels loss or fear when it opens up. “No” always comes easier than “yes,” and a deep, conscious “yes” is the work of freedom and grace. So the soul lives by expansion instead of constriction. Spiritual teachers want you to live by positive action, an open field, and studied understanding, and not by resistance, knee-jerk reactions, or defensiveness, and so they always say something like “Do not judge,” as judging is merely a control mechanism.
Words and thoughts are invariably dualistic, but pure experience is always non-dualistic. You cannot really experience reality with the judgmental mind, because you are dividing the moment before you give yourself to it. The judgmental mind prevents you from being present to the full moment by trying to “divide and conquer.” Instead, you end up dividing yourself and being conquered.

~~ Spiritual Canticle of St. John the Cross ~ Stanza 1
St. John the Cross was born in 1542 as John (Juan de Yepes Alvarez) in a small community near Avila, Spain. He joined the Carmelite Order in 1563 and took the name Juan de Sato Matia (John of St. Mathias). In 1577, the unreformed Carmelites imprisoned him in Toledo, Spain.
In a dark, cold and desolate six by 10 feet prison cell, he wrote his famous poem: Spiritual Canticle.
In 1578 after nine months of imprisonment, he escaped taking with him his poetry. He stayed in a convent to get better, read his poetry and shared his experience of God’s love to the sisters.
He is similar to Rumi, a poet and a mystic. He also wrote the Dark Night of the Soul and Ascent of Mount Carmel. He is one of the leading poets in Spanish literature.

If any little word of mine
May make a life the brighter;
If any little song of mine
May make a heart the lighter,
God help me speak the little word,
And take my bit of singing
And drop it in some lonely vale,
To set the echoes ringing.
If any little love of mine
May make a life the sweeter;
If any little care of mine
May make a friend’s the fleeter;
If any lift of mine may ease
The burden of another,
God give me love, and care, and strength,
To help my toiling brother.

A Special Gift
Today, I received a gift. For me, it’s nothing special. From the giver, it’s a very special gift. And the gift is one Mango.
This is a very special mango brought by the three special stooges (my nephews) all the way from Palawan, Philippines. Men think differently when it comes to buying gifts. I wonder what they were thinking in choosing a Mango for a gift? Maybe they though this is a perfect gift? Maybe they thought I want a mango? Maybe they thought of surprising me. Maybe they were not thinking at all? Maybe I will surprise them by returning the gift!
Not.
I am happy to receive the gift and happier even more that these young men came home safely. That is the most important part. As for the gift, it’s the thought that counts. It’s a gift from God to bring them back to us, mango included.
Now, allow me to ask these questions. Indulge me, please participate, especially the men. The questions are:
- What if you bought the perfect gift for someone you love and they wouldn’t open it?
- Would you leave it with them so they could think about it and maybe open it later?
- What do you think God does when His gift is not accepted?
If you do not believe in God, think of your higher power or think up of anything. Your comment awaits. Thank you.

Final Journey on Earth
She came to Canada by steamship as a young woman in 1958 with a four-day train ride from Halifax to Vancouver as her introduction to Canada. Vancouver offered the beauty of the ocean, along with the comfort of the mountains that reminder her of her home in Italy. She married, raised a family, and lived in Kitsilano where she was known for her garden and flowers, which she carefully tended until just weeks before her passing.
She was a supporter, a volunteer, and active participant at the Italian Cultural Centre and Villa Carital until her illness would no longer allow her to help. Through her work, at Arbutus Manor for many years, and involvement in various clubs and groups, including Catholic League of Women (CWL) and the Circolo Trentino, she had built a large and varied group of friends.
The Easter candle is lit at baptism and lighted again upon death. “In dying we are born to eternal life.”
We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. ~ Romans 14

A task for angels
Many years ago lived a man who was able to love and forgive everyone he met.
Because of this, God sent an angel to talk to him.
“God asked me to come and visit you and to tell you that He wants to reward you for your goodness,” said the angel.
“Any favor that you desire will be granted. Would you like to have the gift of curing?”
“By no means,” answered the man. “I prefer that God Himself choose those to be cured.”
“And what about bringing sinners to the path of the Truth?”
“That is a task for angels like you. I don’t want to be venerated by anyone and serve as an example all my life.”
“I can’t go back to heaven without granting you a miracle. If you don’t pick one, you’ll be obliged to accept one.”
The man reflected a little before answering: “Then I want Good to be done through me, but without anyone noticing – not even myself, so that I don’t commit the sin of vanity.”
And the angel gave to that man’s shadow the power to cure, but only when the sun was shining on his face.
In that way, wherever he went, the sick were cured, the earth became fertile again, and sad people regained their joy.
The man traveled many years over the Earth without ever realising the miracles he worked, because when he was facing the sun, his shadow was always at his back.
In that way he could live and die without being aware of his own sanctity.

WYA Revolution is a project started by a young man named Jon Jorgenson It is a new project that seeks to remind everyone, young and old, that you are loved. No matter who you are, or what you’ve done – you are loved!
Life is an adventure, and it can be a difficult adventure from time to time. Everyone goes through moments (or long periods) where they feel as though the whole deck is stacked against them. We can feel defeated, unloved, unlovable, renounced, and/or forgotten. But, these are the moments that God loves us the most.
Jon Jorgenson speaks to this in his new videos for the Anima Series. There is one for women, and another for men. They are both really powerful, so I encourage you to watch them both.

Something fell from the sky
On my way to work, something fell from the sky. As I walked closer to it, it appeared to be a small piece of paper iridescent green colour. I bend down to pick it up and it was paper light.
Good Lord. A hummingbird. I don’t know what to do. I was so scared that it might have died from the impact of hitting the pavement. It was breathing so fast. Stroking it as gently as possible and praying to it “Please do not die” was all I can do,
I turned around and went to the nearest bush. I laid it gently, left and hope it will come back to its senses.
On my coffee break around 10 am, I went to check the bush. The hummingbird was gone. I hope it flew away.
This was the first time I encountered a hummingbird.
Fast forward a year later. Spring, a beautiful sunny day, however, the dark night of the soul is trying to invade me.
I was gardening on my balcony at the same time talking to God.
God, where are you. I don’t particularly like how I am feeling, please take this away from me. Where are you?
Suddenly I heard this whooshing sound. It was high pitched buzzing more like it. Am I hearing things now? Or the tension is affecting my eardrums again?
I look up and right in front of me was this beautiful golden hummingbird.
Oh my God. I repeated this so many times in my mind. Transfixed to this small creature, I did not breathe nor move for fear of scaring it away.
Time stood still.
Zoom, it was gone. So was the dark night of the soul.
From here on, the hummingbird is my constant companion especially when I tend to garden. One hummer brought others and they stay around all year.
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year. Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees. And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stand still. For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill. A Robert Frost Hummingbird Poem
A Companion
God looked down on its wide-eyed children
And said they need a companion,
So God, made a dog.
Peace ~ Moving beyond
> Live one day at a time and make it a masterpiece.
> Treat others the way you want to be treated.
> Racism is a learned attitude
>Make a choice.
> Change your attitude. She is right. I cannot change the past and I can definitely change my attitude. Subsequently, I began to find my VOICE. Stand Up! Speak Up! By being silent I will suffer. That is why I have to speak out against intolerance, violence, disrespect, mendacity and any forms that will kill the soul of a human being. If I maintain this silent attitude and accept the inhumanity, then, I have just lost the purpose and meaning of life. That purpose comes from the heart connected to the mind. As much as possible, I leave little room for hatred and cultivate love. Love brings peace. A moment of Peace, a day of Peace, and never-ending Peace is what I strive for. If I tell myself who I am, words are not enough. I have to show you and I start with children. If I can only teach one child to become loving, forgiving, compassionate, kind and see the goodness of the world in the God of small things, then I have done my job. Hopefully, the child in turn will teach other children and this can have a ripple effect. I changed and keep the deep abiding Love of God based on my Catholic faith to love one another as He loves us. And this is Peace. Related Articles:
Better than Bacon
Who doesn’t like Bacon? Can’t say I don’t. I happen to like bacon and the smell of bacon wafting through the atmosphere. Imagine me hovering on mid-air following the scent of the bacon. It’s so enticing. Ah ….
Bacon is one of the most common discussions at work. We could talk about bacon all day long except for other belief system that doesn’t eat meat at all. However, they are intoxicated by the smell of bacon. Yet, their faith keeps them from eating this sinful delicacy. They have such deep abiding faith.
Would you care to join me and eat bacon?
When I invite someone, I try all kinds of tricks to join me or join us. But I suppose dangling bacon is not as good as dangling a carrot.
I am actually talking about Catholics bloggers. There are many of us: some are really dedicated, some are lapsed. And there are non-Catholics that are just faithful to their religion. It really does not matter to me. Catholic means Universal. I embrace you all.
For the sake of this post, I am supposed to link two sites that are catholic bloggers. Let me introduce:
Claudia. I like her sense of humour and I can relate to her.
“Whoever suffers from mental illness ‘always’ bears God’s image and likeness in himself, as does every human being.” excerpt from statement by Blessed Pope John Paul II at International Conference for Health Care Workers, on Illnesses of the Human Mind, November 30, 1997.
Not The Sword But The Pen. She wants to join the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows (Beaverton, Oregon). I happen to follow the footsteps of St. Francis.
Friar Musings. The title is exactly what it says. He is a Franciscan Friar. Again, he is another St. Francis in the making. This link speaks about mindfulness and I quote:
The weather and its coming and goings make us vigilant. What else in life causes you to be vigilant, attentive, watchful, observant, alert? Is it the literal thief in the night? Maybe at best I have been attentive – you know… lock the doors and windows, install an motion-sensing flood lights outside, regular things. Did I stay up all night on watch? No. Didn’t install ADT or other home protection systems, either. Maybe a better word for all this is that I was “mindful.” I was mindful of the possibility of a thief in the night, but it was all just integrated into my life.
I did ask the first two but not Father. They are good in what they do already to let their faith shine in the whole blogging world.

Prayer of the Six Directions
Brother Sun, Sister Moon
Mother Earth a home for all sentient beings
Brother Wind blows the clouds from the sky
Sister Water quenches the parched ground
Brother Fire lights the Way Call me a New Ager
This is how I started following
Brother Sun, Sister Moon

And Sister Moon
I seldom see you
Seldom hear your tune
Preoccupied
With selfish misery Brother Wind
And Sister Air
Open my eyes
To visions pure and fair
That I may see
The glory around me I am God’s creature
Of him I am part
I feel his love
Awakening my heart Brother Sun
And Sister Moon
I now do see you
I can hear your tune
So much in love
With all that I survey I am God’s creature
Of him I am part
I feel his love
Awakening my heart Brother Sun
And Sister Moon
I now do see you
I can hear your tune
So much in love
With all that I survey

For those who are familiar with cognitive behaviour, this is what they teaches in the course. It all makes sense to me. This period is not all about me; it’s all about God whoever you conceive him to be, from Abba to Zen. They said God lives in us. Can you see the reflection of God in another person? Or let’s not even mention God. Can you see the goodness of a person? You see, I believe that we are all inherently good. Since you told me in my post Tell me and I will tell you mine, I will tell you the title of this list: Fasting and Feasting. I choose Feasting. Instead of giving up, I will give in and listen to the prompting of God. I will leave you with something to think about, a poem: “I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. “ Etienne de Grellet (1773-1855); Quaker missionary Something to read:

Pilgrim’s song
Man is lonely by birth.
Man is only a pilgrim on earth.
Born to be king, time is but a temporary thing,
only on loan while on earth.
Like the wind in the tree,
man has been rather reckless and free.
Thrown far and wide, we long to settle down beside
the stream flowing through eternity.
Like the grass on the lawn,
we will pass by the way and be gone.
A lesson to learn, we walk but once there’s no return.
Time is always moving on.
Man is longing for One,
for a song and a place in the sun,
a home up above where ev’ry day is lived in love, for
rest when the journey is done.

- What was grieving like for her?
- How long did she grieve, when did she recover and what methods did she use?
- Who were the people who supported her during that time?
- How did she continue living life without Jesus Christ, losing the love of her life?
- What was it like for her to see the love of her life, Jesus Christ, suffered, crucified, put to death and buried?

DP: Clean Slate – Simplicity
The tenant is a minimalist. All she brought with her is an old bed and three dressers for her clothes. She loves dressing up. No sofa, no chairs, no table for she threw in the towel. A clean slate, a new beginning. Ah, she can now breathe. No more stuff that suffocates her life. Over the years, the room is gradually filling up and it has maintained its simplicity in life. A sofa, plants, folding dinning table, a cat. Plenty of light and life. She now loves living the life what God has intended for her.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky;
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

Sunday, January 6, 2013 , Epiphany Day
Needless to say, I received some treats from the Three Kings and then some. Next celebration is Easter Sunday. Mark your calendar that will April 7, 2013.
In my faith, today is also called Epiphany. The meaning from Webster Dictionary is:
: an appearance or manifestation especially of a divine being
: an intuitive grasp of reality through as an event usually simple and striking
: an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure
: a revealing scene or moment
: a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something
Have you ever had an Epiphany? I think I did. And let me tell you this story that happened in 2011 Pilgrimage to Holy Land, Egypt and Jordan.
Pandemonium! Everybody was excited to go home after 21 days of being on the road as a Pilgrim. People are coming in and out of their hotel rooms. Checking each other’s luggage. Sharing stories, pictures and laughter. What did you buy to bring home? What’s your favourite place? What, what, what? Too many questions and I am starting to become tone-deaf. I need some solitude.
I would like to stay longer and soak up the three world’s religion: Islāmic, Judaism and Christianity. I want to be with the Muslims, Jews and Christians: and have an Interfaith Dialogue. But good things must come to an end.
Last night at Jordan side: I retreated to the balcony to find some peace and quiet, drinking tea and having a smoke. The balcony is facing a beautiful garden and overlooking the Dead Sea. I could see Israel from the balcony. On a clear day, I could literally see the walls of the old Jerusalem. On the right, I can imagine the location of Bethlehem, Nazareth and other geographical areas of where ancient time began based on the First and Old Testament. This will be my last trip. I have now covered the places of the Testaments. The Bible will become truly alive in my mind and heart. The readings during the mass will be more meaningful for my mind can conjure the places where I have visited. Gratitude, I am filled with gratitude to my God for making it possible for me to experience the trip of a lifetime.
It’s dark. Only a silhouette of the mountain is visible. The lights were flickering across the waters. Inside the hotel room, commotion ruled.
I settled in the dark, trying to calm myself down. It’s good to be here, Lord. I started speaking in my mind. Careful that nobody will hear me for they already think I’m batty. Don’t care. Then, whispering softly, I raised my right arm, started waving goodbye to Israel.
Goodbye, Jerusalem
Goodbye, Bethlehem
Goodbye, Nazareth
Oh, what is that? A star? A bright shining star that appeared so close and yet so far. Hmm, is it a plane? No, it’s not moving. Ok then, as I made this schizophrenic dialogue within myself. One asks; the other personality answers. Oh, let me see. That’s Jerusalem, that’s, Nazareth; that’s Bethlehem. Aha! This must be the STAR that the Magi saw. Imagine that and it’s not even Christmas yet.
Excitement came rushing out of my body. I must take a picture. Made a quick dash inside the room, grabbed my camera and Neli, another pilgrim, to show her what I see. This rushing must have only taken 15 to 25 seconds. When I got out, the STAR is gone. Oh, no. It’s gone. I was so disappointed and sad that I have no picture to show off about my last night. Checked the horizon if there’s anything floating in the sky that is as big as the STAR. No, it’s pitched dark. Neli gave me “the look”, walked out of the room. Later I followed for it’s time to check out. At Frankfurt airport, I pulled Father Priest on the side and told him about my experience. He simply said in his infinite wisdom, the STAR is meant only for my eyes to see. No camera can ever capture it. I was so moved by his explanation and tears of joy came out. Picture, yes, I have a picture of the STAR; in the eyes of my heart. I praise you, O Lord, for your works are wonderful. Blessed be God forever.January 5, 2013 Notes to file: On Giving

Daily Prompt: Quote Me – Does Evil Exist?
When it comes to what I believe, I bear in mind that the word God might be different to other belief system. If you are reading this, the word God should be replaced by whatever higher power or inspiration you believe in.
Here is a man who questioned everything. And he answers it, too.
The question is “Does Evil Exist?”
His answer:
“Evil does not exist or at least it does not exist unto itself.”
“Evil is simply the absence of God.”
Thought provoking. This poster hangs on the west wall of my sanctuary. I stare at it every day.

DP: That Stings! – Flight of a Bumble Bee
Franz Kafka said, “we ought to read only books that bite and sting us.” What’s the last thing you read that bit and stung you?
When was the last time I borrowed a book from the library? It was such a long time ago. There is a period in my life that I devour all the books at the library and suddenly BOOM, I stop reading.
Bite me, I dare you. Vampire books are enjoyable to read because they bite. What stings them is that they still have their humanity, the love to be amongst the living. Ah, love, it makes my heart grow fonder. It’s lovely to feel the love of the Vampires. I feel so much love. Just wait a minute, that doesn’t sting.
There are a couple of books beside me that I pick up to read between TV commercials. I tell you, I can read a chapter by the time the ads are over, too many commercials on TV. “All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten” by Robert Fulghum and “The Pleasure of Finding Things Out” by Richard P. Feynman. These books are filled with humor and they both sting, a little.
The book that I keep on coming back that I never seem to finish reading is titled “Awareness … the perils and … opportunities for reality” written by Anthony de Mello. This is not an easy read or a romantic novel. This book cuts through the core, and I bleed just by reading it.
When I picked up the book, it opened on this chapter, and I quote in part:
At a loss for Words: “God does not die on the day we cease to believe in a personal deity. But we die on the day when our lives cease to be illumined by the ready radiance of wonder renewed daily, the source of which is beyond all reason. We don’t have to quarrel about a word, because “God” is only a word, a concept. One never quarrels about reality; we only quarrel about opinions, about concepts, about judgments.”

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE: SURPRISEd by LIGHT
Sunrise! It’s always a delightful surprise to see the sun rises. No two are alike. The sunrise was taken successively with just a simple borrowed dilapidated Kodak camera from my sister. I don’t own a camera but I received a free gift of memory card from Fuji.
The 2011 pilgrimage was memorable in a sense that I went on top of Mt. Sinai. It was a trip of a lifetime. In order for us to be on time before the sun rises, we have to start climbing in the dark at 1 a.m. A local Egyptian boy guided our group. I took the easy way up, rode a camel part way and climbed at least 1000 steps up to reach the summit.Once reaching the summit, we waited for a while.
It was dark and cold. I could hear a lot of murmur, whisper, laughter, prayer. Our eyes were fixated on the black horizon in order not to miss the first glimmer of light. And then, the sun quietly made its presence known.
With a song and a prayer in my heart, I hummed this melody to my God: Morning has broken, like the first morningBlackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
