List of Lies

One ear to another - Malta

Lies I’ve told my 4 year old recently

  • The mole men live in the subways.
  • The bird men live in the skies.
  • The monster doesn’t actually live under the bed (he’s hiding somewhere else nearby).
  • There are 71 flavors of snow, but only 63 flavors of water.
  • If you sing enough, you will never grow old.
  • Don’t worry, I lock up bad dreams in little cages.
  • Every good room has a ghost.
  • When we made you, we left part of ourselves behind so you would never be lonely.
  • Your shadow knows your secrets.
  • Books hide when they don’t want to be read.
  • Time moves faster when close your eyes.
  • You knew everything, but then you were born and forgot, and now you have to learn everything again.
  • Be nice to your brother, he will always be your best friend.
  • We’re not lost.
  • Moms and Dads never really get lost.
  • We know exactly where we’re going.

“I asked my reflection, How did you get there?”

“The Gift-Wrap & The Jewel” by Wanda B. Goines

I looked in the mirror and what did I see,
but a little old lady peering back at me
With bags and sags and wrinkles and wispy white hair,
and I asked my reflection,
How did you get there?”

You once were straight and vigorous and now you’re stooped and weak,
when I tried so hard to keep you from becoming an antique.

My reflection’s eyes twinkled as she solemnly replied,
you’re looking at the gift wrap and not the jewel inside
A living gem and precious, of unimagined worth
Unique and true, the real you, the only you on earth.

The years that spoil your gift-wrap with other things more cruel,
should purify and strengthen, and polish up that jewel.

So focus your attention on the inside, not the out
On being kinder, wiser, more content and more devout
Then, when your gift-wrap’s stripped away your jewel will be set free,
to radiate God’s glory throughout eternity.

The human soul is hungry for beauty;
we seek it everywhere,
in landscape, music, art, clothes,
furniture, gardening, companionship,
love, religion, and in ourselves.
No one would desire not to be beautiful.
When we experience the beautiful,
there is a sense of homecoming.

~John O’Donohue

Remembering Robin Williams

Robin Williams

Here’s a list of the most profound and beautiful quotes from the late actor who so tragically left this earth far too young. You will be missed Robin Williams.

There’s nothing wrong with being alone

I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone.

Learn to forgive yourself, not just others

Good people end up in Hell because they can’t forgive themselves.

It’s OK to be crazy

You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.

Pick your battles wisely

Never fight with an ugly person, they’ve got nothing to lose.

Never stop reaching for greatness

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.

Surround yourself with the right people

When you have a great audience, you can just keep going and finding new things.

All marriage, gay or straight, is the same

You could talk about same-sex marriage, but people who have been married say ‘It’s the same sex all the time.

You can’t appreciate the good until you’ve felt the bad

You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren’t paying attention to.

Women deserve to rule the world

A nuclear bomb is a man’s way of saying, ‘I’m gonna f**k up the earth.’ A woman would never make a nuclear bomb. They would never make a weapon that kills. They’d make a weapon that makes you feel bad for a while… That’s why there should be a woman president, there would never be any wars. You know this, it’s the truth. There would never be a war; just every twenty-eight days: some severe negotiations.

When you think about death and the after-life

Death is nature’s way of saying, ‘your table is ready.’

Music, like food, is necessary for survival

You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living beings, every where, even the stars.

There’s no such thing as a perfect person

She is not perfect. You are not perfect. The question is whether or not you are perfect for each other.

Selfies are pretty narcissistic

Nobody takes a picture of something they want to forget.

Everyone has a purpose, every action has a meaning

I believe in destiny. There must be a reason that I am as I am. There must be.

Have a good time

“It is not the brains that matter most, but that which guides them
—the character, the heart, generous qualities, progressive ideas.”

Revelation

candle lights

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that something deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.  ~ e.e. cummings”
