‘Tis the season for Red

Mark your calendar, February 5 is Chinese New Year. Red lanterns will be floating all over the place, red packet of envelopes, red dress, red dragons, anything, and everything red.

2019 is the year of the Pig. I did find some reddish pig somewhere in Europe. I wonder if this is a Chinese pig that has defected.

Of course, our Canadian flag is mostly red with a tinge of white. I followed this family all over the place just to take a photo from behind without them knowing it. It’s a lovely image to see family field trips.

“What are we searching for when we read a novel, see a film, listen to a piece of music? We are searching, through a work of art, for something that alters us, that we weren’t aware of before.” Perhaps it is those altering revelations—the ones that move us beyond the comfort of the known—that bring us closer to a cohesive sense of self. ― Jhumpa Lahiri, In Other Words

  1. Gong Xi Fa Cai / Kung Hei Fat Choy!

I live in a very Asian part of the city so the neighbourhood will be washed in red. I really love this time of year. It is full of hope and optimism … not to mention that the Pig years tend to be good ones for me 😁

    Best wishes Perpetua!!

    • Are we going to be really fat by the end of this week, Joanne. My landlord gave three containers of Chinese delicacies which I gave away one. Still munching …

I guess you were born in the year if the pig. Double celebration for you!

      Happy New Year,

      • According to your fortune as a monkey: The monkey is a clever animal. It is usually compared to a smart person. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770 – 476 BC), the dignified Chinese official title of marquis was pronounced ‘Hou’, the same as the pronunciation of ‘monkey’ in Chinese. The animal was thereby bestowed with an auspicious meaning

      • Thanks 🙂

I was referring to Monkey years which can be really challenging. That mischievous monkey can cause a lot of problems.

        2016 … I rest my case 😉

Please share your reflection. Thank you.
