It was a warm sunny June afternoon when we visited the old town of Kaunas, Lithuania. Most old town has a plaza and a town hall for everyone to enjoy. Even a place to have a wedding celebration.
First, I noticed a limousine and a wedding party. Then, a bus pulled beside it came out another wedding party. And more. I counted at least six weddings. What’s unusual about this event that they wed in the town hall even though there are so many churches in the surrounding area.
The bride and groom walk nonchalant on the street with the rest of the crowd followed by their photographer for a photo shot. Some tourist will ask them to have a photo taken with them.
What makes June famous for wedding. A bit of tidbit of an unsual history behind this.
Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and they still smelled pretty good by
June. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting
married.
The history is no longer applicable when it comes to taking a bath. It’s so easy to take a bath now at the comfort of your own bathroom with warm running water using the bathtub or shower. Most of us take morning and evening shower daily. Cleanliness is next to godliness, otherwise, there is no wedding.

Interesting. Glad the bath thing has changed.
Happy us \o/
I got stuck at the yearly bath thing! Yikes!
It’s true. You’ll know when the royal highness is finally going to take a bath, a whole procession. The bath house is miles away. Hence, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland. 🙂
Makes me wonder if they itched especially their hair. Or got lice. I guess when everyone stinks, it’s not so bad.
Aha, the hair, hence the wig was invented 🙄
Fun choice Perpetua – loved the history lesson!!
Thanks, Tina. One big open wedding afternoon, I must say. They smell really good. 🙂
